About Us
The Catherine McAuley Award, a program of MercyCare, is a part-time programme of one year’s duration. Holistic in its approach, the programme is tailored specifically to the group of 20 women between the ages of 28-40 years. A seminar series, conducted on one evening each month throughout the year, is delivered by professionals, community leaders and academics. These seminars expose participants to a wide range of ideas and issues.
The three (3) day January Residential provides the introduction to the programme, the initial formation of the group, sets the ground rules for group participation, and provides an introduction to mentoring.
Midway through the programme (July), there is a three (3) day Leadership Development Workshop, which is also residential. It provides participants with practical tools and skills necessary to fulfil present and future leadership responsibilities, including an understanding of leadership, values and styles, group processes, negotiation and conflict resolution, planning, time management and mentoring.
The non-residential completion weekend is the culmination of the programme. Participants design and express their future commitments to the community, including preparing personal plans and identifying possible projects. A Graduation Evening is held on the following weekend, with family, friends and mentors.
